My Red Cap Oranda dives down to the bottom of its tank and then it turns over onto its back, is this normal?

I just purchased a Red Cap Oranda and have it alone in a 10 Gal tank. For some reason the fish will dive down to the bottom of the tank partially on its side and then it may turn over onto its back. The odd time it will even swim on its back. He seems very healthy and happy is this normal? Or is there a problem?

I don’t know about orandas specifically, but I have seen fish scratching their backs, fins, sides or gills on the substrate of the tank. In every case I’ve seen, it’s been due to Ich (Ick), fungus, or other skin infections, or it’s been a sudden change in pH.

Is he actually making contact with the substrate?
