What is the selective service system?

I will be going to college in september and I received a letter from the Selective Service System saying that I received financial aid for college and I need to register with the Selective Service. What is the Selective Service and what is this all for? (If this is for military, do I still have to join if I had epilepsy/brain surgery?)

When you turn 18, within 30 days, you are suppose to register for the draft, selective service. Since there is no draft, yet, you don’t have anything to worry about for now. But the law says you still have to register.*
