94 Ford Ranger..need to replace the key starter switch in the steering column. How is the switch removed?

I removed the housing around the column and disconnected a safety pin. I was expecting the switch to pull right out. It seems to have another mechanism holding in.

The key must be in the on position. There is a pin in the steering column that can only be pressed in if the key is on.
On most steering columns, the pin is located under the column, near the base of the lock cylinder. On some, Ford kinda hid the pin a bit. If there is a square extrusion that runs towards the steering wheel from the lock cylinder area, the pin is inside it, and must be accessed from the front. It is not necassary to pull the steering wheel, a coathanger will slide past it to press the pin.
