Miss Engine

95 Dodge with a Cummins Diesel engine has a miss, any suggestions?
I have never replaced any engine parts and the engine has 200,000 miles on it. I have only relaplaced all the filters and oil. I use a fuel additive every 3rd tank of fuel. Someone said I may need to change my injectors.
Your fuel system is mechanical, so no cylinder to cylinder electronic control is present. That makes it easy. Get an infrared temperature gun, you can buy them at a parts store or at a lowes or home depot. Run the engine from cold, then check the temp of each cylinder at the exhaust manifold right on the cylinder. As the engine warms up, you will notice that each cylinder will be within a few degrees of each other, except for one. This one will be significantly cooler. This is the cylinder that is not contributing. Next open the fuel lines on the head about half a turn and note how the fuel sprays out in pulses. In the cylinder in question, if the fuel pulses from the fitting, then you have a compression problem…. you’ll need to verify that with a wet/dry compression test, or take to a mechanic. If the fuel doesnt spray like the others, close the line and open it at the injection pump, if it pulses there, or a lot of fuel gushes from under the fuel line nut, then you have a bad injector. If it doesnt pulse, just pours out or nothing happens at all, have the pump overhauled or buy a new one. If the pump needs to be repaired, have the injectors spray tested and cleaned, repaired if necessary.
Dumb question, does it smoke at all? If it does, compression may be the issue. If not, then the pump may be bad. Btw, the pump and injectors cannot be repaired by mere mortals. An injection specialist needs to do this, because the measurements, pressures and relief settings are very intricate. Engine $152.95 An engine is a machine that produces mechanical force and motion from another form of energy (e.g. a fuel source, compressed air, or electricity). It is also referred to as a prime mover. An automobile makes use of several motors to start the car and drive the cars various pumps but the power plant that propels the car is called an engine. The term motor was originally used to distinguish the new internal combustion enginepowered vehicles from earlier vehicles powered by a steam engine, such as the steam roller and motor roller; but can be used to refer to any engine that creates motion. Historic military siege engines included large catapults, trebuchets, and battering rams. Toys and Models AP51MMT P51D Mustang Miss Marilyn $259.94 This collectable mo This collectable model P51D Mustang represents the ultimate in longrange fighter development in World War II the aircraft that was finally able to escort bombers from bases in England to targets deep in Germany. Painted as Miss Marilyn one of the remaining flyable P51s in existence this 1/24scale model P51D Mustang makes a great pilot gift or a present for any veteran aviation enthusiast or history buff. This iconic American aircraft of World War II which also served in combat in Korea actually began as a British aircraft. Designed and flown in just 178 days in response to a British proposal for a fighterbomber. British officials wanted North American Aviation to build the Curtiss P40 Tomahawk under license but NAA President James Dutch Kindelburger persuaded them that his company could build a new better design in less time. The NA73 project featured two innovations: an efficient laminarflow wing developed by the National Advisory Committee of Aeronautics and a radiator design that used exiting hot air to provide a modicum of additional thrust. The XP51 showed good performance at low altitudes and the British government placed orders for several hundred of the fighters. In 1942 the Army Air Forces placed an order for 320 P51As as well as orders for a dive bomber variant the A36. Also in 1942 the Mustang received the RollsRoyce Merlin engine and the results were magic. High altitude performance exceeded expectations with the Merlinpowered Mustang topping 440 mph in tests. The Mustang was taking off and with the addition of longrange tanks the P51 proved to be the answer to the Army Air Force s need for a fighter with the range to accompany bombers all the way to their targets deep in Germany. The definitive version of the Mustang the P51D featured a bubble canopy six .50caliber machine guns and a range of 1 650 miles. Top speed was 437 mph. The Mustang continued in service following World War II operating as a fighterbomber |
