Can I run a portable electric fence off a permanent one?
I have an existing permanent electric fence and I am wondering can I run braided polywire off one of the existing hot wires to sub divide a paddock.
Any suggestions on what I could do then?? I am very new to electric fencing!
Yes, you can. Make sure you have a good connection to the permanent fence. It’s a little finicky, but you can bare back the plastic in the polywire to expose the metal and join that directly to the permanent fence with a clamp.
If you intend to move the fence I’d suggest buying a reel. This lets you quickly wind up the fence when you’re done.
Don’t make your polywire fence too long (<200m). Most polywire has quite a high resistance. If you need to go further, you can buy polywire with lower resistance – ask at the store.
