Sacred Cows
We all have “selective perception“. And we have these sacred cows we must protect. We SEE what it is we want to see. And anyone who thinks to get in our way or change how we SEE things best be advised that it won’t be a pretty experience. Now that’s how it is in general; however, when you aply the principle to RELIGION, then stuff really gets dicey. And one can get cut up real bad!
I can’t tell you how many pounds of ground beef I’ve stored up in the freezer. So many of my sacred cows have gone under the spiritual knife and been chopped up into hamburger. I’ve had to EAT so many of my childhood and young adult words. But, thransformation can only come with with the death of many sacred cows. Billy Graham messed with one of our sacred cows.
What’s so crazy is how long I held out, forcing my beliefs not so much on others, but on myself!
How embarrassing it is to be losing an argument to TRUTH, while becoming even more dogmatic and heated over the sacred cow I tried to protect. In almost all religions (I can only speak for Christians), there’s a strong bias towards protecting what we BELIEVE as though those “beliefs” were somehow sacred, right. Like the concept of HELL maybe? 
The only sacred space is the NOW wherein we have awakened to who we are in Christ.
Here’s something we need to grasp as soon as possible. Eventually the truth catches up with us all. We can only live in denial for so long. But let me remind you that DENIAL does work for a season. Denial is an excellent coping tool until the circumstances of life overwhelm us. In our youth we can do ALL things, or so we think. The older we get the more we realize the truth that “we not in control”. We do have choices, but they are mixed in a sea of choices- of others.
And then there’s the choices of our Creator.
We don’t have a monopoly on the Spirit. And, life will go better the sooner we put those sacred cows on the altar. Like, begin with a roasting of the ego!
